Royal Palm Office Park

Back

At the time that I photographed the Royal Palm Office Park, the exterior had recently been finished and the landscaping had just been installed. Aside from the lobby and a few offices on the first floor, the rest of the building was an empty shell.

The photos were commissioned to be used as a sales aid in brochures, tradeshows, and use on their web site.

We shot the exterior shots on a Thursday and interior shots on a Friday. We were also able to accomodate the client's request for a few large display pictures for a trade show that was to take place on the next Tuesday. Lastly, we prepared a Powerpoint slideshow on the development that was shown at the trade show on a continuous loop.

The most difficult part of photographing the exterior of the Royal Palm Office Park is that the landscaping had recently been installed. The more than seventy palm trees that had been installed all were supported by three or more supports made of 2x4 lumber. None of the trees had healty palm fronds.

For safety and legal considerations, there were many traffic signs on or near the front of the complex. While necessary, the signage distracted from the ambience of the building.

The exterior elevation of the building was photographed at a height of about 40 feet, from the extended platform of a scissor lift. From ground level the parking lot and trees dominated the picture. The decision to use a scissor lift was a good compromise for the client as there was not money in the budget to rent a helicopter.

Prior to outputting prints, the images were extensively retouched to painstakingly remove each of the lumber supports on each of the palm trees. Healthy and full palm fronds were cloned onto each of the trees. All of the traffic signs were removed. It would not have been possible to complete this product so quickly and efficiently if it were not for the fact that we shoot state of the art digital cameras.
